Apple Picking Community Challenge Event
November 04, 2009
On October 31, 2009, over 30 MLAA members, business partners, friends and families spent almost 4 hours picking and packing apples at the Minnesota Harvest Orchard near Jordan, Minnesota on behalf of Second Harvest Heartland Foodbank. This orchard was one of the participating orchards partnering with Second Harvest to donate apples for distribution to area food shelves.
Earlier in the week, two days of volunteers picking apples at this orchard netted 40,000 pounds of apples. Although it was a cold and windy day, the sun was out some of the time and there was no rain. The orchard is beautiful and we got to ride on wagons pulled by tractors out to the picking sites. It was a ton of fun and everyone seemed to enjoy it.
